Biodiversity At Home

Sometimes when we’re building or renovating (or planning to) we have a framework or ideal scenario that we vow to implement once we achieve the said activity. And for better or worse plans and renovations can change and time frames and before we know it we’re still waiting for the ideal spot to plant our vege garden.

I worked with a client recently designing a granny flat to accompany the residence which aimed to also be a sustainable addition to the site. One of the features was a green roof to improve thermal comfort to the building itself, mitigate heat island effect as well as providing habitats for local flora and fauna. The latter being of particular interest to the family. As many variables concurrently changed, including building costs, the project became unfeasible and was parked, along with the green roof. This is a really familiar situation and when we move on it can be hard to recapture the momentum and The catalyst for this post is to deliver a really actionable strategy anyone can employ at home pre, during or post build
